Industrial Automation

Industrial Automation covers a number of diverse sub-segments with distinct form factors, mechanical profiles, endurance, and capacity requirements. These applications are instrumental in factory automation, robotics, autonomous mobile robotics (AMR), test and measurement, energy, farming, and many other fields. Each of these fields would require the products to be designed with components that can withstand industrial temperature between -40ºC and 85ºC.

Virtium provides industrial-grade solid state storage and memory solutions that meet the unique requirements of this demanding market segment.

  • Data protection against unexpected power loss
  • Industrial temperature support (-40ºC to 85ºC)
  • Balanced sequential and random read/write
  • ESD, vibration and humidity resistance
  • Low power / long product life
  • Wide range of capacities
  • Multiple interfaces and form factors
  • Legacy support
  • 99.9% uptime
  • ROHS and REACH compliance

Applications

While diverse, industrial embedded designs require iTemp components, small form-factors, long-life cycle, legacy support, and extended endurance. Virtium products serve the following industrial markets:

Industrial PC and Edge Computer

Factory Automation

Robotics

Test and Measurement

Energy

Gaming

Security / Camera

Challenges

Challenge #1

Factory automation requires consistent operation of its applications under harsh and high temperature environments. For example, the SCADA servers which are based on Industrial PC or Edge computers, to monitor and manage all of the automation equipment. Other components of the solution, such as PLC and HMI, would require industrial embedded storage and memory.

Challenge #2

Autonomous Mobile Robotics (AMR) is a fast-growing segment where Mobile containers (or boxes) are moving around the factory floor to deliver the right components to the right location. These AMR are based on single board computers which require industrial embedded Memory and Storage.

Challenge #3

Gaming Console, ATM and Kiosk units are based on single board computers which requires both memory and storage. For gaming consoles, these units must save all active data and respond quickly to user inputs; therefore, NVMe or fast SATA SSDs are the optimal choice for storage solutions.
