Replace Compact Flash with SSDDR!

Solid-State Double Data Rate (SSDDR) is an enhanced NAND DIMM with the added functionality of a DRAM DIMM. It combines DDR2 or DDR3 DRAM with SLC or MLC NAND flash on a single memory module as an easy way to reduce system space, cost and latencies over traditional SATA I/II form factors, such as Compact Flash (CF) or 1.8”/2.5” Solid State Storage Disk (SSD). SSDDR has the potential to replace Compact Flash.

Memory Architecture

CHOOSING A MEMORY TECHNOLOGY: System architects and hardware design engineers often look at similar “care-abouts” in a memory architecture. One technical point to consider is the timing and interaction of the memory with the memory controller and the capacitive loading on the Data/Address/Control (DAC) bus that can limit the speed of the memory and the quantity of memory that will work in the system. Another common consideration is the "cost/performance" equation in terms of Cost/Gigabyte, DRAM densities, speed and power consumption. Once you select a processor or chipset based on other system requirements, the answers to the following questions can have a huge impact on the design and support of the system.
